I too have been looking for a correct and USEFUL and USABLE definition of ontology. What Gruber says is perhaps correct but is NOT useful or usable. There should be no need for getting into RDF, SPARQL etc. I found that definitions, however good and valid are NOT sufficient for full understanding and appreciation of what ontologies are. I have some explanations and examples and I wish to check with you and other experts to know if my version is correct and complete.
